"Lace workers at Ikkadu, Tiruvallur". "Madras District. From early days, women missionaries made needlework a point of contact with the Indian women. Ikkadu lacework is now an important industry." Miss Mollie Scott with Indian women lace makers. Miss Scott carried out educational missionary work with women in the Madras district from 1896 to 1939.
 The Madras [now Tamil Nadu] District was the first mission to be established in India in 1817. Rev. Harwood Raw served in Madras from 1896 until his premature death in 1905 from cholera.
